Key West and the Southernmost

November 10: It was day two of the cruise and it was incredibly exciting to land in Key West, which is still U.S. territory as it is the Southernmost city in the Continental USA. It was such a wonderful feeling in seeing and exploring somewhere new and to be able to capture it with my camera.

On our journey my travel friends and I discovered that this place is saturated with Southernmost of the Southernmost markings and memorabilia. We only had limited time to explore the city, so we decided to rent bikes. That was a fun idea and it saved us a lot of travel time. We also met up with a group of friends and they also rented out bikes, so we headed out to the shore.

It would have been nice to visit Key West on one of their festival days, but it was still an interesting time and there were some fun things to see in this peculiar town. We saw Ernest Hemingway's house from outside the gate; saw the road sign for where the Florida Scenic Highway (1 North) begins; the landmark for the Southermost point in the USA; the Key West AIDS Memorial, Kelly's Caribbean Bar, Grill & Brewery; and Kermit's Key West Lime Shop. When we we headed back to the ship it was amazing to see it from a distance and then seeing it closer as we came up to the ship. What a grand sight.
