Celebrate Fairfax! Festival 2013

June 7-9: Celebrate Fairfax!

For three days the grounds of the Fairfax County Government Center becomes a big celebration of Fairfax. It is Northern Virginia’s largest community-wide celebration presented by Celebrate Fairfax, Inc. This annual festival hosts tens of thousands of visitors on it's 25-acre site filled with the fascinating sights and sounds of more than 300 exhibitors, food vendors, crafters and interactive activities.

Celebrate Fairfax! is a festival that offers amusement and entertainment for everyone, including live concerts on eight stages, ExxonMobil Children's Avenue, a petting zoo, the Fairfax County Karaoke Championship, carnival rides, and great festival foods, drinks and games. This year's Bud Light Main Stage features top national headline performers: Third Eye Blind, Spin Doctors and the Summerland Tour 2013 - Alternative Guitars with Everclear, Live, Filter and Sponge!

I've attended Celebrate Fairfax several times and this year I covered a portion of all three days. Here are highlights from each day of the festival.

Friday June 7th: The first day of the festival the hours were from 6pm to Midnight and the rain made it a slow start in terms of attendance. Yet one of the main attractions was the Summerland Tour and lots of people came out to hear the bands perform. The rain eventually stopped and those who attended the festival seemed to have a great time, and I know I enjoyed being there despite the inclement weather.

Saturday June 8th: Celebrate Fairfax!  Day Two

Celebrate Fairfax! was to be open from 10am to Midnight this day, so it's the longest day of the festival and it was well attended. The weather was sunny and beautiful and it felt more like the usual festival kind of weather that Celebrate Fairfax! is used to having. It's fun to walk around the festival and see all kinds of adults and children enjoying their day.

One of the highlights of the day for me was attending the 3rd Annual W Salon Rock The Look Fashion & Beauty Show put on by the W Salon (www.wsalonva.com) located in Fairfax. The show is co-produced by Stara Pezeshkian, Founder of Stara Glam (www.staraglam.com) and her fashion styling was seen on stage. The fashion show featured clothing styles by Undeniable Boutique (www.undeniableboutique.com) and DMilikah swimwear (www.dmilikah.com).

Later in the evening at the Bud Light stage, the band Third Eye Blind rocked the audience and their music and the cheers from the audience could be heard in the surrounding area. When evening falls on the festival, it takes on a different look and feel, and it's nice to see all the lights of the festival illuminate the darkness. At the end of the festival was to be a fireworks show courtesy of SAIC, yet I couldn't stay long enough to see it. It was a great day and night nonetheless.

Sunday June 9th: Celebrate Fairfax! Day Three

It was the last day of the festival and it's great to have the festival over three days on a weekend as it gives people a chance to see and enjoy more of the festival as there is so much to see and do. I wasn't able to get to the festival till the very end of the day, but it was interesting seeing the festival come to a close. It's bittersweet in a sense that's it's over as the festival offers so much and is so fun and entertaining. It's something to look forward to next year.
