There have been celebrations of love throughout the ages, and this post is about a modern-day love story set with a 1920's theme at the Studio Theatre in DC (14th and P St). I was asked by Igor Dmitry to assist him in photographing a fabulous event called Love in the 1920s: A Black & White Ball. This event was the 2015 Studio Theatre Gala which celebrates the productions and all those involved with the Studio Theatre. Furthermore, this gala celebrated the marriage of two long-time board members Michael Higgins and Ginny McArthur. The event felt like a wedding reception. There was certainly much to celebrate.
The gala was inspired by The Studio Theatre's upcoming world premiere production of Beth Henley’s Laugh. So the evening appropriately consisted of a silent film, slapstick comedy, and of course a wonderful old-fashioned love story. The event was to start at 6:30pm with a reception, followed by a seated dinner. Then guests went to the Metheny Theatre and watched a comedic and delightful silent film. To close the night there were drinks and dancing in the "Hideaway Speakeasy" on the top floor. Throughout the night guests enjoyed the accommodations, company and entertainment provided. It was a beautiful and stylish themed gala. Everyone was in a good mood and enjoyed the merriment of the occasion. You could say it was a top-notch production. Cheers to the Studio Theatre and to Michael & Ginny. I'm thankful to Igor for the opportunity to cover this event. It was a wonderful experience and that love is for all time.
