The Crystal Couture Show & Sale is a fashion show and
boutique sale which annually transforms an underused/empty area into an
exciting and high-end fashion event. Dozens of area boutiques
and designers put up pop-up shops in one location in Crystal City, Arlington, VA. The event is free to attend. For this opening night the event was hosted by Danni Starr from HOT 99.5 and DC Modern Luxury Magazine (DC Magazine). Maggy Francois and her team were responsible for producing the show and they do a fantastic job of making this event work. The excellent support by Angela Fox and the Crystal City Business Improvement District (CCBID) really help to bring the event to life.
I have photographed this event in previous years and for this year, the location was different with much less space available. The location for this year was formerly a retail clothing store on the level of the Crystal City Shops. Even still they made the event work well. The runway for this year still went around in a rectangular shape. There were less lights set up than last year because of the space, but they still had good lighting on the runway for the most part. There were spots that were lighter and those spots were best for photographing. With the area around the runway being so crowded, there was limited spaces to be positioned for shooting angles. I mostly stood at the corners of the runway to try and photograph the models from the front side and to be able to get the back side too. In a fashion show, it's mostly about the clothes, but it's good to also showcase the model in how they wear the clothes. Check out the schedule for the fashion shows for opening night.
