Art Soiree's Four Year Anniversary Gala

September 15, 2013 - Art Soiree's goal is to showcase emerging talent in the visual arts, short film, music, literature and performance art. They do that by creating a platform for artists to exhibit their talents, cultivate the arts community and share art with guests at their events, and to the world. Based in Washington DC, Art Soiree celebrated their four year anniversary at Malmaison in Georgetown, DC from 8pm to 2am.

Created by Sandro and Tati in September 2009, Art Soiree creates unique and stimulating events that allow guests to experience art and expression. With over 200 exhibitions & events, showcasing over 350 artists of different mediums and genres, they've worked consistently to bring art into life.

Having the gala at Malmaison gave the event an artsy, industrial and yet elegant appeal. Malmaison is a restaurant, lounge and coffee shop on K Street almost underneath the Whitehurst Freeway bridge. The view of Georgetown Waterfront Park and the Potomac River by K Street is enjoyable, especially at night.

Throughout the beautiful night guests and supporters of Art Soiree showed up, mingled and celebrated Art Soiree's four year anniversary. There was a step and repeat in front of Malmaison where guests had their picture taken, and many of them with Sandro. Tati joined in on some of the pictures and was dressed elegantly as usual. Tunes by DJ Adrian Loving kept guests moving. Later in the evening
an anniversary cake was presented. It seemed like everyone joined in watching the candles being blown out, and many people enjoyed a piece of cake and a piece of history with Art Soiree. There is much more art in life to look forward to, and Art Soiree is helping to keep the experience alive.

Brother and Sister Photo Session in the Woods

September 14, 2013 - I was asked by a friend to do a photo shoot of her and her brother in the Vienna VA area. The photo session was for a special purpose in that the photo was for their mother on her birthday, and the brother and sister didn't have too many photos of them together. For the location, we ended up going into a wooded area not far from sunset. The light from the sun streamed through the trees and created a nice back light on the subjects, while the light from my diffused flash lit them from the front. I wanted to balance the light and exposure with the background and foreground. I was asked to make a print for the next day which I personally delivered. I'm glad that their family loved the photos. Here's a couple of the favorites.

Remembering 9/11

It's hard to believe it's been twelve years since September 11, 2001, but the tragic events that day come to mind like it was yesterday. We will never forget about what happened and the lives lost. We are grateful to those who served. We know where we were and what we were doing at the time. I was on my way to work in Fairfax VA, not too far from Washington DC. On September 11, 2008 there was a ceremony for the Pentagon Memorial Dedication. I was there and I took some pictures to document my experience. I'm sharing it here as a way to help remember and to help heal our hearts. More photos are on my Vithaya Photography Facebook page.

Fashion NoVa at Fairfax Corner, VA 9/7/13

It's Fall Fashion season and there is fashion in Northern Virgina. On Saturday September 7, 2013, Northern Virginia Magazine featured the hottest new trends in apparel and accessories, with the first of four fashion shows in a series called Fashion NoVA.

This first fashion show took place at Fairfax Corner. Northern Virginia Magazine created an event with complimentary hors d’oeuvres from Fairfax Corner restaurants, swag bags filled with goodies, raffle prize giveaways, and fall fashions from favorite local designers including South Moon Under, Undeniable Boutique, D’Milikah, Read Wall, Aerosole’s, Chic Envy, Belle Mode Intimates and more. The fashion shows and prize raffles were emceed by 2013 Ms. Maryland Sarah Christian.

To help usher in this event, a couple of Washington Redskins Cheerleaders were present starting at Noon so guests could take pictures of and with the cheerleaders and receive signed autographs from them. Guests also had the opportunity to receive complementary mini-makeovers from the spa professionals at Medalase Aesthetic Center.

During the event, local blogger and fashionista, Erin Haberman from Currently Coveting shared fall fashion tips and techniques to accessorize well and dress to impress! The event ended around 3pm, yet there's more fashion to look forward to in the coming weeks.
