Luau at The Graham Rooftop in Georgetown, DC

On July 30th, the ladies of Sip With Socialites held an end of the month luau to benefit Girls Health Ed. Their mission states: "We exist to help girls and young women make healthy, informed choices throughout their lives by having local health professionals from relevant fields teach bi-weekly seminars in metro area public, private and charter schools." This non-profit organization was founded and directed by Sarah Elizabeth Hillware, who has an incredible story and was also Miss District of Columbia in 2012.

Sip With Socialites consists of  fabulous ladies who hold monthly events to raise awareness and funds for their pet charities and causes while raising a glass. Cheers to that. I covered this event for Sip With Socialites through Guest of a Guest, and I wanted to share some photos from the event. The Graham Hotel's rooftop is a wonderful place to hang out and hold a small event, especially with it's sweeping views of Georgetown and the surrounding area.

Mylan WTT Finals: Kastles vs Lasers

July 28, 2013 - It was an incredible night as the Washington Kastles finished their third consecutive championship run, sweeping all five sets to win their fourth championship in five years. Despite a couple passes of rainfall, it was an overflow capacity crowd cheering the Kastles in their victorious match win. All the details of the night is on the Kastles website. I wanted to describe my experience photographing this night and share some photos.

It's an exciting feeling photographing professional tennis matches, and it's more than just the teams, but it's about everything that involves the Kastles, from the volunteers to the admin, the working crew, to the staff and of course the fans. It's like a community, and so everything should be captured. I carried a wide variety of lenses with me, from wide as wide as 12mm to telephoto such as a 300mm lens. I had two camera bodies with me and synced the time on both cameras before taking my first photo. Arriving early is important to find out the schedule and details of what is going on for the evening. There are certain guests that need to be photographed throughout the night in specific places, along with all the other elements of the evening. It feels like a long night, and there is usually an after-party at a restaurant for the players and certain guests. A bunch of action and VIP shots need to be delivered soon after the match, so that it can be used for media purposes. Here are some highlights shots from the championship night.
